Pastoral Care is an outreach visitation ministry to people within our community who are hurting in body, mind or spirit. Lay parishioners who have been trained in Pastoral Care by the Diocese of Trenton, visit the homebound, as well as those who are in the hospital, nursing home or senior citizen housing. Eucharistic Ministers will also bring communion to those who are unable to attend Mass. Our Priest or a member of the Pastoral Care ministry are eager to visit anyone in need. Please call the rectory for a visit. If you need the assistance of a priest in the hospital in the event of an emergency or a critical illness, please notify the nurse in charge, who will contact the priest. In addition to the priests, members of the Pastoral Care Committee visit hospital patients each week in order to visit and pray with parishioners who are patients. Eucharistic Ministers from this Committee also bring Communion to patients on a regular basis. Please inform the rectory when a family member is in the hospital. Priests and members of the Pastoral Care Committee are also eager to visit with all home-bound members of the parish. Please call the Rectory. The Community of Prayer gathers on Tuesday evenings from 8:00 to 9:30 for songs and praise, prayer, and scripture readings. Prayers are also offered for the Parish or individual requests including those placed during the week in the prayer box located in the foyer of the church. Servant of the Lord Prayer Group This Group, organized by the Filipino parishioners of St. Dorothea's, meets every Sunday morning after the 10:30 AM Mass in the rectory. All are invited to join in the prayers and songs of praise and adoration including spontaneous prayer in the spirit, in the format of A-C-T-S (Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving and Supplication). There is a Filipino Mass every 4th Sunday at 1:30 PM with Rosary beginning at 1:00 PM. Pre-Cana is a one day preparation program for engaged couples, which deepens and enriches the couples knowledge and attitudes about their present love relationship. Various presentations from married couples develop realistic expectations about their future marriage and the importance their faith will play in achieving those expectations. The Pre-Cana Team consists of the Pastor and a group of committed married couples who share their own marriage experiences. Directing the engaged couples in an examination of their feelings and opinions about each other is critical to their preparation for marriage. The major goal of the program is to stimulate communication on specific topics essential to a successful marriage. A brochure published by the Diocese of Trenton providing information concerning all Pre-Cana and Engaged Encounter Programs, and listing future programs, is available in the rectory. A prayer chain hotline is available to parishioners who have a need for intercessory prayers, especially in a crisis situation. Please call Rectory at 542-0148 in the event of such a crisis. The Social Concerns committee oversees the activity which is made possible through the generosity of the parishioners. St. Dorothea's feels very strongly about social concerns. It is our duty as Christians to respond to people's present crisis. Our parish reaches out to those in need with food, clothing, household items, holiday gifts and meals. Through these gifts parishioners express warmth, generosity and comfort. St. Dorothea's Youth Group is for high school age teens. The group meets every other Sunday. The purpose of the group is to meet their social, spiritual and physical needs. The youth play an important role in determining the activities planned and carried out by the group. All meeting dates and times are announced in the Parish Bulletin. Mothers (or grandmothers) from the parish with their pre-school children meet on Thursday mornings at various parks from 10:00 to 11:30 AM for social discussion and play. St. Dorothea's has two basketball teams; The Junior Kingmen, for 5th and 6th graders, and the Kingsmen for 7th and 8th graders. Practices begin in October and the season runs through March. St. Dorothea's participates in the parochial league, and competes with other Catholic schools. Prayers are said before each game. Kingsmen means men of Christ. A dance for senior citizens is held the first Sunday evening of every month at 7:30 PM and the third Saturday at 8:00 PM in the James P. Coyle Family Center. The Senior Dance is a place for seniors to connect and enjoy themselves. You do not have to bring a partner. |
