Parish Committees hold regular meetings to plan and implement activities which serve the needs of the parish. New ideas are always welcome. Please consult the phone directory for the name of a contact person for information about a committee. The dates and times of meetings are published in the Parish bulletin. This team was formed to help educate the rest of the parish on their individual responsibilities to spread the Good News. Building on studies and past activities (such as the parish census and the Welcoming Gathering for new parishioners), we discuss ways to reach out to alienate Catholics or the unchurched and how to make St. Dorothea's a more welcoming parish. Always striving to surface new ideas, we hope to bring about in our parishioners such an enthusiasm for their faith in Jesus that they freely share it with others. The Facilities Committee is charged with continually maintaining both the buildings and grounds of St. Dorothea's Church to make them safe, convenient, and comfortable for the parishioners. Some recently completed projects are the expansion of the driveway, construction of new walkways and ramps, replacement of the roofs and gutters of the church, school, and rectory, and a new air conditioning unit for the church. Upcoming projects include an expansion of the parking lot. We are always looking for people willing to help with jobs around the parish plant as well as professionals to share their expertise with this committee and us. If you are interested, please call the Rectory. The main goal of the Hospitality Committee is to foster a sense of community within St. Dorothea's Parish. We sponsor coffee, doughnuts and bagels after the 8:45 and 10:30 AM Masses on the second and fourth Sunday of each month in the Rev. James P. Coyle Family Center. We also plan various parish get-togethers, such as the appreciation dinner and the parish Christmas Party. The Mission Committee is involved in raising funds to support missions in Peru, India, and St. Dorothea's Social Concems. The principal fundraiser is the very popular Mission Day Fair; all proceeds are divided equally between the two missions and Social Concerns. The object of this committee is to promote respect for all human life - from conception to natural death. Some initiatives include parish holy hours of life, the recitation of the rosary, the pro-life telephone tree and postcard campaign, distribution of pro-life literature, our annual baby shower for Birthright and an essay contest for CCD children. Special Liturgy is an extension of the Liturgy Committee. It plans, prepares and helps present liturgies for Saints' Feast Days and Holy Day celebrations. Special Liturgy helps us to remain connected to our Old Catholic devotions and traditions, while remaining open to the new ways of celebrating liturgy. It is the vision of Special Liturgy to help lead us to experience the Divine; to enter more fully into the mystery and sacredness of the Mass; to come to a deeper appreciation and devotion to the canonized saints of the Church; to give honor to our Blessed Mother; and to ultimately draw us closer to God. This committee plans the liturgy for the Children's Mass scheduled for the second Saturday of each month at 5:00 PM The homily is prepared especially for the age group of the children, who are encouraged to participate in the Mass as much as possible; as lectors, gift bearers, or musicians. The Guild, whose main objective is to serve the Parish, welcomes all women of St. Dorothea's. It is chiefly responsible for the maintenance of the altar including vestments and altar linens. Members fashion the bibs used at Baptisms and regularly visit Gateway Nursing Home in Eatontown. Spiritual Activities like Communion Breakfasts and Evenings of Recollection are sponsored, as well as fundraisers. Guild members also run the annual Blood Bank Drive for the Parish. Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month, September to June (excluding January) at 7:30 PM in the Family Center.
