The Sacrament of Baptism marks a child's formal initiation into the Christian Community. It should be an occasion for the parents, relatives and friends to renew and reaffirm the parents, relatives and friends to renew and reaffirm their commitment to our faith. Baptism is a seed of faith to be nurtured by the parents and the parish. The Sacrament of Baptism is generally administered every first and third Sunday at 1:00 PM. Parents, and Godparents if possible, must participate in a Baptism Preparation Class prior to the Baptism. These classes are held the last Thursday of the month at 7:30 PM. Please contact the parish secretary to make arrangements for the Baptism and to register for the class. The Sacrament of Reconciliation is usually received in the second grade with two years of preparation through the CCD Program. First Eucharist is usually received in the second grade with two years of preparation through the CCD Program.. Children of the Parish usually receive the Sacrament of Confirmation in the 8th grade with sufficient religious education. Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults Vatican II has restored the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, commonly referred to as RCIA. The Church recognizes that the responsibility for evangelization and education is the responsibility of all baptized Christians. Through the RCIA Program, adults who want to become Catholic or who haven't received all of their sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, First Communion, Confirmation) are fully initiated into the Church. Sponsors, instructors and the community work together with the candidates through rituals, education, prayer, and hospitality to initiate the process of growth in the Catholic faith. The Church recognizes that this process continues throughout our lives as Catholics. Meetings are held weekly from September through May. Participants receive their sacraments at the Easter Vigil. Adults being confirmed receive confirmation on Pentecost Sunday. Photos of the most recent RCIA class at Easter Vigil. The Sacrament of Reconciliation/Penance is celebrated in the church every Saturday from 4:00 PM to 4:45 PM. Twice during the year the Parish will celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation communally. These opportunities are announced in the weekly bulletin. They are usually held during the seasons of Advent and Lent. The Sacrament of the Sick is intended to spiritually and physically strengthen those who are sick. Advanced age or any serious illness is sufficient reason for administering this Sacrament. If you have any question or are in need, call the Rectory. Arrangements for the ceremony itself should be made one year in advance. An appointment can be made with the Pastor for this purpose. Only registered members of St. Dorothea's may use the Church for their marriages. Marriage is a major commitment and requires much prayer, consideration and preparation. St. Dorothea's follows the Common Policy for Marriage Preparation of the State of New Jersey which, among other points, requires a formal marriage preparation program. Married couples wishing to have their marriages validated by the Church are asked to please contact the Rectory. The parish community of St. Dorothea's is served by men who have been ordained to the Order of Priest and the Order of Deacon for service in the Diocese of Trenton. Any man interested in seeking ordination should contact one of the ordained ministers of the Parish. Many parishes and missions are served by women and men who are called to serve in a religious vocation. Any man or woman interested in serving in such a capacity should contact the pastor. |
